The Asian League doesn’t have trades. Players become free agents, are released or loaned from/to other teams. Korean born players, however, must do compulsory military service of at least 24 months. As a result they are selected to play for Sangmu, the military team, formerly in the Asia League from 2013-14-2015-16. The team is now part of the Korea Ice Hockey League. After completing their military duty players can return to their original team or sign with another.
Each team is permitted to sign 3 import players. Imports are players who do not hold passports of the participating nations in the Asia League. Russian players are an exception for some reason and do count against the limit if they are signed by teams other than Sakhalin.
