Hockey club “Sakhalin” ( Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk ) was founded in 2013. Originally it was called the “Sea Llions”, but in February 2014 was renamed “Sakhalin”, since this title more accurately reflects its regional identity.
Home matches are held at the Ice Palace “Crystal”.
The teams first match was held January 7, 2014 against the hockey club “Bryansk”. The match ended with a score of 5: 1 in favor of the Bryansk club. The only Sakhalin goal was scored by defenseman Fedor Khrapak.
January 16 of the same year, the club won its first victory in history vs “Ryazan” – 6: 3.
The first game in the Asian Hockey League was on September 6 in Seoul at the Mokdong Ice Rink against Daemyung Sangmu. The meeting ended with a convincing victory for the hosts, 7: 2.
The author of the first goal by Sakhalin in the Asian Hockey League came from Latvian, Sergejs Pechura.
