Today the Oji Eagles announced they have signed defenseman Ryan Caldwell and center/winger Matt Murley for the 2016-17 season. The signings fill out the Asia League quota of three players per team. The Eagles re-signed Stephane Veilleux in the spring.
Caldwell, a former New York Islanders draft pick, recorded 7 points in 13 regular season games for second place Lorenskog of the Norwegian Get Ligaen, and 5 points in 16 playoff games where Lorenskog lost in the finals to first place Stavanger Oilers. He’s just the latest Lorenskog player to join the Asia League after Jeff LoVecchio, Wacey Rabbit, and Alex Plante last season.
Matt Murley, a former 2nd round Pittsburgh Penguins, comes in from the Nürnberg Ice Tigers of the DEL where he recorded 25 points in 51 regular season games and 3 in 12 playoff games. He’ll get to clash with former Ice Tigers Cole Jarrett of the Tohoku Freeblades.
