Game Previews 1/28/2015

High1 at Nikko Icebucks 18:30 JST

High1 currently trails the Icebucks for the sixth and final playoff spot by 10 points. The Icebucks just played three games against first place Anyang Halla that required extra time and came away with 4 of 9 points. High1 has lost seven in a row on the road including an overtime loss. In that span they have scored only 8 goals.

The Icebucks haven’t done much better, with only two overtime wins in their last ten home games. However, they’ve found the scoring touch with 19 goals in 6 games in January.

High1 has gone 3-5 at Nikko since 2012-2013, most them have been close games.

Daemyung Sangmu at Oji Eagles 18:30 JST

The fourth game of the year between these two. The Eagles are looking to put space between themselves and the fifth place Free Blades and at the same time try to gain ground on the third placed Nippon Paper Cranes.

The Eagles lead the season series 2-1 after 5-2 and 6-0 wins and an 2-3 OT loss in October in Incheon.

The Eagles are coming off two losses at home to Sakhalin. In both games the Eagles had 2-0 leads but couldn’t hold on. January hasn’t been kind to the Eagles they are 3-6 this month.

Sangmu is 2-7 in January and is looking to play spoiler the rest of the season. They can still finish in seventh place.

Sakhalin at Nippon Paper Cranes 18:30 JST

This is the fourth game of a penalty filled series. So far the teams have combined for 6 for 46 on the power play and Sakhalin has 2-1 advantage.

The Cranes are 5-3 this month including two consecutive shutouts of Sangmu, before losing 3-2 on the 26th.

Sakhalin is 5-2 in January.

Anyang Halla at Tohoku Freeblades 19:00 JST

Halla has won all three games by a score of 18-5, but Halla is so-so on the road and the Blades have won their last 5 at home.

Game Previews 1/23/2016

Nikko Icebucks vs Anyang Halla, 16:00, Nikko, Japan

After an 8-0 home stand, first place Anyang Halla start a six game road trip to Japan with a three game set against the sixth place Icebucks. The Icebucks are returning home after a 3 game series in Sakhalin where they went 1 and 2. The last time they meet was back in September in Anyang and Halla won 2 games to 1. It’s the only loss for Halla on home ice this season.

Halla has already secured a playoff spot, but the team from The House of Orange is clinging to the final position with High1 and Sangmu knocking on the door.

The Icebucks have lost 5 straight at home, including back to back shutouts by the Oji Eagles, and Halla sweep the China Dragon in their last road action.

Last 10: Halla 10-0 Icebucks 4-6

Nippon Paper Cranes VS Daemyung Sangmu 17:00, Kushiro, Japan

The Cranes are glad to be home after a long 3-5 road trip. They host Sangmu after sweeping them 3-0 by a combined score of 15-2 in October in Incheon.

Sangmu is currently on a 10 game road trip that has seen them play Halla and the Dragon and come with out a 1 and 3 record in the process.

Sangmu has leaned on centerman Kim Sang-Wook to be the offensive spark for the team. Earlier in the year he had 14 game scoring streak (8 goals 18 assists 26 points). Not to be outdone, the Cranes Jeff LoVecchio had a 16 game streak (12 goals 16 assists 28 points) and Shigeno Shunsuke had a 15 game streak (8 goals 16 assists 24 points).

Expect an entertaining game.

Tohoku Freeblades Vs High1, 17:00 at  Hachinohe, Japan

High1 will play their remaining 11 games of the season on the road after going 9-15 at home. High1 has 4 wins in 14 road games so far.

The Blades are another team happy to be on home ice where they are  11-7. They are coming home after being swept in Sakhalin 3-0. The Blades managed 3 goals while allowing 13.

High1 comes up 7-7-7 and it’s not a good thing.

The first game sees High1 hosting the Oji Eagles in Anyang at 1:30 as part of the Anyang Classic. High1 is in 7th spot 7 points behind the Nikko Icebucks for the last playoff spot. High1 has lost 7 in a row. The Eagles and High1 last played 9/12-13/2015 in Tomakomai and split the two games.

The Eagles have won their last 3 games and are in fourth place. They also have the third best road record at 12-6.

Game time 1:30 @ Anyang Sports Complex Arena

Enter the dragon Lair part 2

After yesterday’s 4-0 loss against Sangmu, the China Dragon are still looking for their first regulation win on home ice.

With another win Sangmu can move to within 3 points of 7th place High1 should High1 lose today.

Game time 3pm Qiqihar local time/ 4pm KST

Best Home Record vs best road record

Anyang Halla 15-1 at home, Cranes 13-4 on the road. They split two games in October in Kushiro. Halla lost 3-1 and won 3-2 in a shootout. Both teams have stingy defense and stingier goalies. Expect a tight game unless one team starts slowly.

Game time is at 5:00 @ Anyang Sports Complex Arena or watch it on www.anyanghalla.com/MediaCenter/hallalive.asp.
