Ding Dong the Streak is Dead! Daemyung Sangmu ends team record 8 game skid.

The chronically short-staffed Sangmu platoon ended their losing streak with a 5-4 victory against the Tohoku Free Blades tonight. Their nearly dead power play jolted back to life tonight by going 3/9 and their penalty killers went 4/5 to end the longest losing streak in team history.  Motono Michitaka’s third goal from Logan Stephenson and Tanaka Go opened the scoring at 3:53 of the first period. Sangmu replied shortly after on a power play when Kim Sang-Wook wristed his 13th goal from the right faceoff circle past Itoh Yuto.

Sangmu went 1/3 in the first whille the Blades were 0/1.

A string of penalties offered both teams plenty of room to operate in the period. Sangmu started the scoring with a short-handed marker by Lee Bon-Jin (5th goal) when he and Park Sang-Jin at 1:51 into the period . After being burned, the Free Blades banged home a 5 on 3 goal when Kim Staal’s point shot was tipped through a screen by Tanaka Ryo (7th) just over four minutes later. More penalties lead to two more Sangmu power play goals from Shin Hyung-Yun (9th) and defenseman Oh Kwang-Sik (3rd). SAngmu ended the second with a 4-2 lead.

3rd period

The Blades came out firing! 24 of their 52 shots on goal came in the third period and two by Shinohara Kota (3rd) and Yamashita Takuro (5th) found their way behind Han Jae-Ik. However, Mun “Cookie” Kuk-Hwan’s sixth goal of the year won the game for Sangmu.
